Daily Bible Reading—December 2024, God’s Guiding Word: JoyНамуна
Introduction
Revelation 2:1–29: In this chapter, we read the messages that Jesus told John to write to the churches in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, and Thyatira. The messages include words of encouragement along with words of criticism. The reference to Satan’s throne in the city of Pergamum (verse 13) probably refers to the fact that the city was a center for emperor worship.
Today’s Key Verse: Revelation 2:7b
“To those who win the victory, I will give the right to eat the fruit of the tree of life that grows in the Garden of God.”
Reflect
How is Jesus described to each of the four churches? You may recall these descriptions from yesterday’s reading in Chapter 1. What words of encouragement are given to the churches? Why are words of reproof also given? In each instance, what is promised to “those who win the victory” (verses 7, 11, 17, 26)?
Pray
Lord Jesus, help me to listen for your voice today. Open my heart and mind to your word and keep me faithful. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Revelation 3:1–22: John records messages to three more churches in Asia Minor.
