Five Things to Look for in a Future Husband

DAY 5 OF 5

A servant's heart is the antidote to selfishness in marriage. It's about following Christ's example of putting others first and choosing to “serve one another humbly” (Galatians 5:13). Jesus is the only perfect human ever to live. He deserves worship and honor, but he never demanded it. Instead, he did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life (Mark 10:45).

A man with a servant's heart doesn't just help when he is asked; rather, he actively looks for ways to support, care, and love those around him.

Here are some things to look for. Does he offer to help you with tasks, both big and small, without being prompted? Is he willing to sacrifice his own comfort for yours? Notice how he treats waitstaff, his family members, or people in need. A servant's heart goes beyond the romantic relationship to include a general attitude of being helpful and compassionate.

In a marriage, this quality is invaluable. It means he'll be willing to change diapers, take care of you when you're sick, or take on extra responsibilities when you're overwhelmed. It's not about keeping score but about genuinely enjoying meeting the needs of others.

Remember, a servant's heart doesn't mean being a doormat. It's about choosing to serve from a place of strength and love, just as Jesus did.

Prayer:

Father, please bring me a husband that is willing to serve others as Jesus did. In Jesus' name. Amen.
