The Spiritual Journey of Mankind

DAY 1 OF 6

Day One

The Journey – Introduction

In 2006, I wrote a book called Journey to the Inner Chamber. I felt God’s inspiration to encapsulate the Gospel in an allegory that would present the hopeless condition of mankind, the hope that Jesus Christ brings to this condition, and the process that following Him will lead us to. At present, after several years of requests to do so, a screenwriting process is underway to adapt the book for a full-length feature motion picture. Our purpose for this movie is to introduce to a new and younger generation the hope we all have in Jesus Christ, and to do so with the preferred communication medium of this generation. The movie is about our message that Jesus is inviting us to an intimate, abiding relationship with Him, which hits at the core need of mankind. Our follow-up process will be to help those interested to find what they are looking for. As we prepare for the future with the spreading of our discipleship process, I’ve been asked to allow the readers of my book to have a closer glimpse into my thought process while writing it. I’ll do this over the next few days. If you would like to read the book, which I recommend, we have provided a link to where you can purchase it at a discounted rate. Now to my perspective:

As a Christian, for many years I’ve observed a disconnect in our thinking about our spreading this hope in Jesus Christ. It seems to be presented as either evangelism or discipleship, or tainted with traditions that have no relevant biblical support. I believe this emphasis does not represent the Gospel as it should be understood. I believe the Gospel should be presented as a seamless process that begins by God’s grace through Jesus Christ and His redemption to those who believe in Him, and then continues by God’s grace as we journey through life with Him. I believe this is a sacred faith journey for those of God’s family who will join Him in this passage. Jesus said that it is a narrow, difficult road that few people choose to walk on. However, for those who do, we will tell you that it is the best road to travel in our journey of life.

Discipleship after salvation, simply put, is learning to walk with God and live in closer proximity with Him. We get to know Him better. We abide in Him and He in us, and this creates a life transformed by Him for His purpose. The written word of God leads us to the Incarnate Word who is Jesus Himself, and He invites us to come deeper in our intimacy with Him through His Spirit. I attempt to represent the Inner Chamber in my book as that intimate place that Jesus waits for us and we meet with Him. I draw my thought of this from the Holy of Holies that was at the center of the temple. Before Jesus’ crucifixion God invited mankind to come to Him at this special place at the Holy of Holies through one means. Once a year on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, a selected priest would enter behind the curtain blocking the most holy place to burn incense and sprinkle sacrificial animal blood to expiate his own sins and those of the people of Israel. However, after the crucifixion the curtain was ripped from top to bottom giving another message. I believe it was a message that then said that all can come to Holy God through Jesus, and we are now able to come all the way … to Him. But do we go all the way to Him? Is this possible? Can we really take what is being offered to us? What did Jesus say about this?

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-29 ESV

I believe the invitation from Jesus is clear, and the need is great for God’s family to come close to Him. My book introduces this process in allegory form, but it is solidly rooted in the theology of God’s word. As you read it consider where you are in the process, and where you must go next to find what you long for in a deeper relationship with Christ. The scriptures that undergird my allegory will be provided in our study-guide for the book.

In the following reading plan, I will provide a synopsis and my thoughts on three segments in the book:

The Refugee Camp (Our life before Christ)

Inside the Kingdom (Our life after our conversion)

Becoming an Influencer (Our life in a deeper relationship with Christ).

I hope that you enjoy the book. But most of all, my prayer is that it will be a map that will lead you to know Jesus as He wants you to know Him. God bless you in your journey there. TO GET A COPY OF THE BOOK, JOURNEY TO THE INNER CHAMBER, CLICK HERE.
