Day Fourteen: The Thirteenth Floor of Hebrews
Ever stayed on the 13th floor of a hotel? Neither have I. It’s kind of strange, right? Well, here we are, about to stay on the 13th level of Hebrews. I don’t even know what that means, but it’s amazing. This chapter is so dope! The preacher is a freak of nature, and I can’t wait to meet him in heaven. This dude just brings everything together beautifully in Hebrews 13, so let’s get into it.
We start with a call to let brotherly love continue and to show hospitality—because, who knows, you might just be entertaining angels without even realizing it. Cute, right? It’s got a very Pauline vibe, with these little nuggets of wisdom at the end. And don’t forget about those who are in prison, not just any prisoners, but those being persecuted for their faith. The preacher is basically saying, “Be aware! These people are being jailed daily, dragged away, and persecuted. Remember them as if you’re right there with them, because we’re all part of the same body.”
Now, here’s the thing about this chapter—it gets real. It talks about being content with what you have, even when you feel like you’ve lost everything. And let’s be honest, when you’re going through something tough, like losing your job, and someone just says, “Well, Jesus is with you,” your first reaction might be, “You know what, man, I’m going to punch you in the face.” But the preacher here is literally reminding us that Jesus said He’ll never leave us or forsake us. So, that’s kind of a big deal. It’s not just a cliché. The Lord is our helper, and that should be enough to get us through the wilderness, the barrenness, or whatever season of hardship we’re in.
One of the highlights is the call to offer a sacrifice of praise to God. We’re priests, after all, following in the order of Melchizedek, and our job is to bring sacrifices—not to atone for sin, because Jesus handled that once and for all—but sacrifices of praise, thanksgiving, and good works. We’re called to live out our faith actively, to be those priests who not only minister to God but also bless those around us.
As we wrap up Hebrews 13, the big point here is that Jesus is worth sticking to. He’s greater, better, and there’s nothing out there that compares to Him. This journey through Hebrews reminds us that there’s nothing better than Jesus—He’s worth it all.
