God's Fathers - Questions for Fathers

DAY 6 OF 7

Are you teaching your child to live pure, holy, and to forgive?

The glory of a son is his father (Proverbs 17:6).

Are you teaching your children to behave correctly towards people of the opposite sex? Do they know what it means to be treated with respect?

Do you teach them to respect other people and see them as God's creations who are at least as valuable as themselves?

Are you teaching your child to forgive and to ask for forgiveness when they do something wrong?

Do you teach your children to be humble and to refrain from bragging and haughtiness?

Do you ask your child for forgiveness when you've acted wrong? All of us misbehave from time to time. Your child will not think less of you if you ask for forgiveness—quite the contrary.

What do you teach your child about failure?

Are you teaching your child that truth is non-negotiable? Not to lie – not to lie to yourself and to live in such a way that it is unnecessary to lie?

Are you teaching your child not to compromise?

Would your children like to visit you 40 years from now – in light of how you behave towards them daily?

Do you treat your son with respect – do you treat him like a man and make him feel like a man, or is he on the receiving end of your ridicule, venom, and sarcasm? Do you humiliate your son in front of other people – do you tell others about his weaknesses and failures?

How do your actions and words make your daughter feel? Special? Will she hope that one day her husband will talk to her and treat her the way you did?

What five positive things do you think you have taught your child, and what five things have you learned from your child to date?

How do you discipline your children? Is it by force and humiliation? Do you insult them and act unreasonably and impatiently? Are you hitting or threatening them?

Do you yell at your children? Do you think God wants you to yell at them? Is God yelling at you?

Do you keep your word? Do you know of instances where you have not? Ask for forgiveness where necessary.
