Perseverance in the Workplace

DAY 8 OF 14

When David wrote this psalm, Saul and his army had him surrounded. David was outnumbered and cornered. Saul wanted to kill him. As if that wasn't bad enough, Saul wasn't just any ordinary enemy. He was David's father-in-law, and the father of David's best friend. You can pretty much say that David wasn't having a very good day. In spite of the situation, David chose to keep his focus on God and God's promise that he will rule Israel as its king. He chose to trust God that no matter how grim the situation looked, it was just temporary. He chose to trust God that His promise will still come to pass.

In life, we are constantly faced with challenges and problems. Some are more difficult than others. But as with all things in life, we have a choice. We can choose to focus on the problem, or we could be like David, choosing to keep our focus on God and trust Him that He will not only bring us through the problem, but will take us to a higher level, and one step closer to His promises. Challenges may be a part of life. But the thing is, you don't have to go through it alone. No matter how long the haul or how strong the winds of the storm may blow, our eyes must always be fixed on God.

He will be be the one to give us the ability, courage, and strength to go through the different challenges we are facing and will face. While we're going through these challenges, it is He that will also give us the peace and joy that surpasses all understanding (see Phil. 4:6-7). Just like David, you will not only break through whatever problems you're facing and will be facing, but will come out higher than before.

PRAYER: Father God, there are times when the challenges I face can be too overwhelming that it's so tempting to just give up. But just like David, I choose to keep my eyes focused on you. And just as you have brought David out of the challenges and problems he faced, I know that You'll do the same for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

About this Plan

Perseverance in the Workplace

This 14-day devotional by Pablo de Borja is written out of his 36 plus years as a lawyer and his burning urge, relentless and tenacious desire, to share the WORD with regularity and constancy in ways showing that it is alive, exists and subsists to be lived. The WORD, as it is pertinent to, and connected with, everyday life is the crux of the sharing and so shall it continue to be such.
