In Jesus Christ the world continues to exist

“In Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17)

All things were created by Jesus Christ. But with that, His role is not finished. He also ensures that the universe continues to exist. Hebrews 1:3 says He upholds the universe by the word of His power.

This is another important difference from the stories and myths surrounding other gods. These are usually only after their own interests and do not care about this world. They do not even control what happens to the things and powers they have made. But the Lord Jesus does. He has the whole world in His hand. He has control over nature, over spiritual powers, and over the doings of us humans.

This also contrasts with the modern view that the world exists independently, guided by natural laws. No, says the Bible; without God our earth would not continue to exist. Everything would collapse! We cannot exist for a moment without Him, even though we are often unaware of it.
