Fast Food Faith

DAY 22 OF 28

Live Mas

Throughout this study, we have taken a look at what it means to follow Jesus in a fast-paced, microwave culture. We’ve learned that our culture trains us to get things that we want immediately, and exactly our way but Jesus teaches us that God’s timing is perfect and it does not always look how we want it to. God’s ways are higher than ours and surrendering to His way over our desires and preferences is uncomfortable the majority of the time. We’ve seen how reading the Bible and committing to reading God’s Word on a daily basis is life transforming and builds our relationship with Jesus. Only God can satisfy the real desire of our hearts. Without Him, we will always want more.

These are all themes from the past three weeks, they have all led up to this week which is Live Mas. Live Mas is the Taco Bell slogan and translated to english it means “live more.” While we aren’t going to be studying how tacos are made or the secret ingredients of a baja blast, we are going to be reading about what it means to truly live more as a follower of Jesus. Maybe you have come to a point in your life and you’re asking yourself, “Is this it? Is this all there is to life and am I just going to be stuck in the same routine for the rest of my life?” Let’s be honest, sometimes we get to that point in our walks with Jesus too. It's that point of being stagnant, not knowing what else there is to do when it comes to growing in your relationship with Jesus, or maybe within your ministry where you serve. While this is a common place to be during seasons in your life, with God there are always ways to “live more,” to be radical, and to surrender even more to Jesus even when the mindset is “is this it?”

The truth is, if you have been struggling with the question “is this it?”, you may have become too comfortable in your relationship with Jesus. There is always an opportunity to grow and surrender more, there are always more ways to step out in faith, and more to learn about who Jesus is. Sometimes we get caught up in the routine of checking the boxes and thinking we are “good,” but we miss the relationship part of Jesus. Lists and boxes are good for getting things done but can we leave it as a resource to maintain time and be more intentional with what we have on our schedules and lists. Instead of only reading a devotional, what if you took it a step further and shared what you studied about in God’s Word with at least one person every day? What if we prayed for an extended time before or after our quiet time instead of rushing to get it done just to say it has been done? Life can be overwhelming and we can lose sight of the purpose of life, which is living more for Jesus. Now is the time to refocus and fix your eyes on Jesus because He loves you and wants to have a deep and growing relationship with you. This is how you can truly live more. This week, I pray that you can be reminded of what it means to live más.

About this Plan

Fast Food Faith

Why does America like fast food? Because it’s quick, convenient, and tastes amazing. But when we view our faith through that lens, we become spiritually out of shape consumers who end up living a faith dependent on speed, convenience, and hyper-palatability. But God’s desire for us in life is to slow down and live lives of intentional discipleship; to develop lasting faith in a fast culture.
