God's Attributes Reflected in UsНамуна
Jesus offers us eternal life
Jesus says: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.” (John 6:47)
Human life is short and fragile, we read yesterday. But that’s not all there is to say. For death was not part of God's original plan with His creation. Nor does death have the last word.
The Lord Jesus says that He gives eternal life to everyone who believes in Him. He can do this because He has conquered death. He has “the keys of Death and Hades” (Revelation 1:18).
Eternal life is closely tied to faith. Jesus says, “Everyone who believes in Me will have life, even if they die” (John 11:25). That seems like a contradiction. But there is a difference between physical death and spiritual death. All people on earth will die (unless Jesus returns before then). The crucial difference comes after physical death. Believers get to live with God forever. Unbelievers go to a place of death and horror.
On the day the Lord Jesus returns to earth, believers who have died will have their bodies restored. But not to be vulnerable and mortal again. The dead will be raised as imperishable human beings, Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 15:52-53. This is possible because of the life force of God who has overcome death.
What does “eternal life” mean to you? Does it sound attractive?
About this Plan
God created humans “in His image.” This means that in a sense we resemble our Creator. But to what extent is this still true? And to what extent has sin broken this image of God? This reading plan examines various attributes of God and how they are reflected in us.
