Understanding Your Life Story
Did you know God's writing a story with your life?
We all want to live a great story. So, have you ever considered that God is writing a custom story with your life? You might be in the middle of a chapter that is confusing to you. In fact, if you were holding the pen to write your life story, maybe you'd write everything differently right now. Maybe you'd cross out a section that isn't pleasant, or you'd skip over a chapter that required new learning and growth.
But let's look at what God says in Isaiah 55:8-9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
Trying to understand the ways of God is like an ant trying to understand the internet. God is so big and His plan for your life is so great and so specific that you will only understand it fully when you see Jesus face to face. There's so much we can't see from our earthbound position right now. Which is why God says that His ways are higher than your ways and His thoughts than your thoughts.
So when your circumstance doesn't make sense, when you have more questions than answers, or when you can't understand what God is doing, remember, He sees far more than you can and His thoughts are far higher than your thoughts.
You may not understand what God's doing right now in your life, but you don't have to. Instead, you can trust that He loves you completely. He gave His Son for you. His ways are working for your good in order to bring you closer to Him and to become more like Jesus.
So let's practice a breath prayer this morning based on Isaiah 55. Are you ready? Wherever you are, in your car, at home, having your coffee, relax your body, quiet your mind, and settle your soul.
Take a deep breath in:
"Your thoughts are not my thoughts."
Breath out:
"Your ways are higher than mine."
Again, let's breathe the scripture in:
"Your thoughts are not my thoughts."
Breath out:
"Your ways are higher than mine."
Third time:
"Your thoughts are not my thoughts."
"Your ways are higher than mine."
Now take a moment to thank Jesus. You can declare that while you may not understand what's happening, that you trust Jesus completely. Let Him know that you are aware that His thoughts are not your thoughts, and His ways are higher than you ways.
One more time, breath in:
"Your thoughts are not my thoughts."
Breath out:
"Your ways are higher than mine."
May you breathe deep today, friends, and know God is writing your story. He knows what He's doing, even if you don't understand it. You can trust Him today.
