Free From a Tormented Mind

DAY 2 OF 5

Notice how detrimental it is when we are controlled by feelings. Samson felt protected because he thought God was with him. But the reality was different: “… Samson woke up thinking he could free himself as before, but he did not know that the Lord had left him”, Judges 16:20 (NIV).

Samson's problem is like that of many disobedient believers who believe that God protects and guides them when, in reality, it is deceitful spirits leading them astray.

When the Israelites rebelled, believing the negative report from the ten spies, God said none of them would enter the promised land, but they insisted on taking it. They set out believing God would be with them. However, Moses told them, “Do not go up, for the Lord is not among you, because you will be struck down before your enemies”, Numbers 14:42-45 (ESV).

Feelings do not guarantee God's presence and blessing. Only obedience to God achieves those things. So be careful with feelings. You might believe the new relationship you are about to start is the opportunity of a lifetime, when in reality it is a deadly trap. Or the person you are getting to know will end your loneliness, when in reality all they will do is end your spiritual life.

Set your feelings aside and follow God!
