The Truth Project Scriptural Devotion

DAY 6 OF 12

Author H.G. Wells once described God as the "frantic director" of a play gone hopelessly out of control. Wells failed to appreciate the subtlety of an artist who uses apparent flaws and blunders to accomplish His design. God was in charge when King Ahab fell before a "random" arrow. He "ordains whatsoever comes to pass," not only in spite of chance, sin, and man's free will, but by means of them. This is the mystery that lies at the heart of history--the key to the story that contains and explains all others. Is my life frantic and chaotic? Or does it reflect an ordered confidence in the grace and goodness of a loving and sovereign God?

Lord, my hope is stayed on You. You are my Keeper and the Shade upon my right hand. Without your permission, the sun cannot strike me by day not the moon by night. You neither slumber nor sleep, great Defender, Protector, and Guide (PSA.121.3-6). I confess that my times are in Your hands; You have appointed my limits that I cannot pass (JOB.14.5). Accept my praise and bless me, I pray, O gracious Author of the tale of my days.
