When I Feel I'm Not Good Enough
The God of Jacob (1)
"'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob,' He is not the God of the dead but of the living" (Matthew 22:32).
"May the Lord hear your prayer on the day of need, may the name of the God of Jacob protect you" (Psalm 20:2).
The genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac of Jacob, and Jacob of Judah and his brothers; Judah was the father of Peres and Serag at Tamar... Salmon was the father of Boaz at Rahab and Boaz of Obed at Ruth... Jesse was the father of King David; Solomon was the father of Rehoboam... Abia of Asa... and Jehoram of Uzziah ... and Ahaz of Hezekiah; Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh... Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ (Matthew 1:1-16).
The story of Jacob opens a door full of hope for us. If we translate the concept of "the God of Jacob" literally, it means "the God of the one that grabs the heel from behind, or "the God of the deceiver". Jacob was the kind of man you wouldn't want to let go out of your sight. You wouldn't like him as an intimate friend; you could never be sure of him. He was a man who cheated his own brother out of everything, a man who didn't mind lying to his father and without hesitation cheated on his father-in-law.
And yet God calls Himself "the God of Jacob"!
