The Fruit is in the Roots

I’m not a botanist, nor do I study the habits of tree roots, but I did some research and found out there are several different types of root systems. Different types of roots have different capabilities. Depending on the species, the root systems have many characteristics in common.

1. In most trees and plants, the root systems are underneath the ground level.

2. In crops that are grown on dry land, roots grow about 90 percent of their roots in the top few inches of the soil. The remaining 10 percent of the roots grow deeper to reach water for survival.

3. When conditions are ideal, roots can take hold quickly and establish a sturdy foundation.

4. The growth patterns of roots are random but usually gravitate towards optimum soil conditions, instead of searching for water or fertilizer.

5. The Aspen tree bark is used as for some medicinal purposes such as an anti-inflammatory tea. The bark oil can be used to naturally treat skin infections. A seasoning can also be made to add to savory dishes for an earthy and slightly sweet taste. The bark can be processed an oil used in salad dressing and sautéed vegetables. Likewise, our spiritual roots are vital. When you abide in the Father, you remain connected by your faith which feeds your spiritual roots. As you keep your identity centered in Christ, your decisions and actions are aligned with Him. Guidance and wisdom are supplied to your spiritual root system from God’s Word. Being faithful, intentional, and obedient to God strengthens and stabilizes your roots. Consistency in communion through prayer and intimate conversations fertilizes your soul. Be teachable - nearness to God establishes a strong spiritual root system that produces long-lasting fruit.

A good tree bearing good fruit isn’t fruitful because it tried hard enough or did enough good things or even because it is a better kind of tree than a specific bush. A tree with deep roots and close to the stream of living water will have bountiful roots and fruits. Roots that are connected to God, the best life source will be the most productive. The sun can blaze down, and the winds can tear at its branches, but it will stand, green and fruitful, even if the rains fail to fall from the sky. Its source of life is dependable and unchanging.
