The Truth Will Set You FreeНамуна
Sharing Truth
When Jesus spoke about freedom, He wasn’t talking about the ability to make unlimited, unrestricted choices. Instead, He talked about freedom as a pursuit of a meaningful and others-focused life.
Paul, an early Jesus follower we mentioned a few days ago, compared following Jesus to running a race. But if following Jesus is a race, it’s less like a road race on level ground and more like one of those challenging courses where you have to run through mud, climb over obstacles, and crawl under barbed wire. That’s because sin constantly tries to trip us up, cause pain, and point us in the wrong direction.
While knowing the truth won’t make life easy, it does help us navigate life with greater joy. Imitating Jesus’ generosity, kindness, and service to others is hard, but it’s even harder to live trapped in feelings of guilt, numbness, or comparison.
Thankfully, we don’t run the race of life alone. We can look to other followers of Jesus to encourage us as we pursue Jesus’ way of life. And as we run, we get to help others discover truth.
How do we share truth with others? As we’ve explored, truth is more than just a set of facts. Instead, it’s a person: Jesus. Jesus taught and lived God’s truth. He spoke about God’s love and warned people of the consequences of a life trapped in sin—and He did it with kindness, compassion, and respect.
He didn’t shame people who had allowed culture’s lies to lead them toward hurtful choices. And He didn’t condemn people who doubted He spoke the truth. He was both confident and humble. He was bold and kind. And He was full of both truth and grace.
Following Jesus’ example means sharing His good news in a kind, non-judgmental, humble way. Let’s not just speak the truth, but also live the truth of Jesus’ love.
Following Jesus toward freedom is a journey that takes a lifetime, and we won’t always get it right. That’s okay. God knows we aren’t perfect and constantly gives us opportunities to start again. As we keep pursuing Jesus, we immerse ourselves further in life-giving truth. And in learning and living the truth, we find true freedom in Him.
Pray: Dear God, thank You for showing us how to live. I want to live in Your truth. Help me get to know you more every day so I can live in freedom and lead others into freedom too. In Jesus’ name, amen.
