100 Days of Hope

DAY 38 OF 100

Bearing His Image

Our worth is NOT based on productivity or personal achievement. I know this to be true, but I struggle to live in light of it. I love fruit. I love productivity. The world tells me my worth is based on a legacy, on changing the world, on achievements. While not necessarily bad things, they are heavy, crushing expectations to bear. The lie that our worth is based on personal achievement will oppress us. It is a harsh master to serve. It will kill our joy. It will kill us. Jesus came to set us free. The truth of where our worth lies will set us free. God is not the CEO of a large company exacting productivity and efficiency from his employees. God is a father taking care of His family! Our worth is based on the fact that we are a son or daughter of the one true God. We bear his image. He was crucified on a cross and experienced hell to reclaim His bride, His church—us. And best of all you and I were worth this much to Him before we did one good work, before we decided to turn and follow Jesus, before we did anything adorable to earn our Father’s love. We did nothing to deserve this love, and we can do nothing to lose it.

Prayer: Father, thank you that our worth is not based on our achievements, but because we are your children. Fill us with your Spirit to set us free from lies that keep us from believing our worth is in you.
