Food for Thoughts

DAY 5 OF 5

What Does Jesus Want Us to Know About Salvation?

(Focus Verses: Luke 7:47-50)

1) Jesus Is the Answer

The woman was well aware of her sins, but she was even more aware of the One who had come to wash away her sins. She understood that Jesus was the Messiah spoken of by biblical prophets thousands of years before, so His opinion was the only opinion in the room that mattered to her.

2) Surrender Is the Response

While Jesus may not be calling us to wash the feet of our classmates, He is calling us to fully surrender our plans and priorities to Him. If He truly is the answer humanity is searching for, the only natural response is to obey Him and dedicate all we do to sharing Him with others (Col. 3:23)!

3) Peace Is the Evidence

And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace” (v. 50). Since the woman had been saved through faith, she was now at peace with her Creator. This reality would enable her to live at peace with herself and those around her. In our anxious and worried world, people desire the hope and rest that true Christians carry.

Big Idea

Jesus is the hope our soul longs for. When we truly understand His life, death, and resurrection, surrendering to Him is the only natural response. When people see the peace we carry, it will open the door for Gospel-focused conversations!

Let's Think About This:

Question #1: What is one thing that “jumped out” to you while reading Luke 7:47-50?

Question #2: Which of the three things Jesus wants us to know about “salvation” (1. Jesus Is the Answer; 2. Surrender Is the Response; 3. Peace Is the Evidence) resonated the most with you?

Question #3: Have you surrendered your life to Jesus? If not, what is keeping you from making that decision today?
