Learning to Pray: The GRACE Prayer SystemНамуна
Reverence
After entering the God’s gates, the next step is to enter into His presence. The way to do that is through reverence, which simply means adoring God for who He is.
God is unlike anyone that we’ve ever met on this earth. He is extraordinarily, remarkably, and magnificently unique. His power is unending, and He is entirely, altogether set apart, holy and beautiful. As we fix our gaze upon God, and marvel at who He is, adoration and reverence begin to flow from our lips. This can take some practice, but we must learn to be completely absorbed in reverence of who God is. Let’s look at a verse to unpack this a little:
Psalm 34:1-3 encourages us, "I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together." Reverence magnifies God's greatness and power. Reverence takes the gaze off of what God has done for us and looks to the character and nature of the One who has done those things for us. As we press in, understand, and meditate on who God is, our hearts overflow with wonder, reverence, and adoration for who God is. We stand in awe of the One who made a way for us to be in His presence for all eternity - out of His great love for us.
Daily Challenge:
Meditate on one or two attributes of God that you are fascinated by. As you bring them to your mind, complete the sentence “I marvel at your…..” and let the Holy Spirit lead your heart into expressing reverence and adoration to God.
