Choose a Life of Eternal Impact

DAY 5 OF 5

Our Thoughts

“Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.”

Today’s focus is our thoughts. Let’s reflect on our thinking. In Colossians 3:2, Paul instructs believers to focus and think about “things above, not on earthly things.” This verse reminds us that things above are where Christ is, so we must align our thinking with the truth of Jesus. We believe in who He is and live in light of this truth.

Paul says in Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Ask yourself: Do the world’s ways and values shape my thinking, or do God’s ways and the values of His kingdom?

These verses tell us one thing to start doing and one thing to stop doing. In Colossians, Paul tells us to start thinking about the things above and to stop thinking about earthly things. In Romans, Paul tells us to start being transformed by the renewing of our minds and to stop being conformed to this world.

Use Philippians 4:8 as a daily checkpoint for your thoughts. Are they true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and so on? Consider taking time to journal and write down your thoughts and evaluate them in light of God’s Word.

Our lives move in the direction of our thoughts. Let’s direct our thoughts heavenward. If we are not heavenly-minded, then we will be no earthly good. As C. S. Lewis said, “Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither.”

About this Plan

Choose a Life of Eternal Impact

Missionary C. T. Studd once said, “Only one life, it will soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last.” His words emphasize the value of living a life of eternal impact. If we want to discover our purpose and choose a life of eternal impact, then we have to begin with four simple action steps found in Colossians 3:1-2.
