Who Does God Say We Are?

DAY 1 OF 7

Embracing Who We Are in Christ

I'll never understand how those who study the stars could deny the existence of a Creator.

Famed astrophysicist (and agnostic) Neil deGrasse Tyson describes the makeup of humans this way:

“The atoms of our bodies are traceable to stars that manufactured them in their cores and exploded these enriched ingredients across our galaxy, billions of years ago... We are not figuratively, but literally stardust.”

Gazing at the infinite beauty and splendor of the heavens, even the staunchest scientist can’t help but become poetic. Even if we disagree with him, it’s a beautiful description of atomic structure, but is that all we are—just “happy accidents” in a vast universe of cause and effect?

Throughout this week, we will delve deeper into our identity in Christ: our roles as sons, heirs, chosen ones, and victors.

We will explore what it means to live from this identity in our relationships, work, struggles, and triumphs. For in Jesus, we find our true identity, purpose, and ultimate fulfillment.

At the very core of our being lies the foundational truth that we are intricately fashioned in the image of the Almighty Creator Himself. This truth, often overlooked or underestimated, should serve as the bedrock of our existence, shaping every facet of who we are and how we interact with the world around us.

Without this knowledge, we are rudderless and without a purpose.

Instead, God intentionally crafted each of us with His divine likeness (Ephesians 2:10). Our identity as God’s image-bearers speaks to our inherent worth, dignity, and significance in God's eyes. This truth transcends societal norms, cultural expectations, and personal insecurities.

As we embark on this week-long journey of exploration, pause and reflect on your true self, recognize the inherent value and potential you hold, and begin to live more authentically in the fullness of who God created you to be.

Prayer: Father, thank You for creating us in Your image. Help us to understand and embrace the fullness of our identity in Christ. Guide us through this week as we explore what it means to live as Your beloved sons. Amen.

Reflection: In what areas of your life do you struggle to see yourself as a beloved son of God? How might embracing your identity in Christ transform these areas?
