Embracing the Empty Nest- Redefining Your PurposeНамуна
Day 4: GRATEFUL
The empty nest stage is a significant transition, but it is also an opportunity for growth and renewed purpose. Over the next several years as they were all leaving the nest, I grieved the time when all three of them were younger. Despite our challenges, we were a close-knit family. As I was grieving, the Lord pierced my heart with a message: to be grateful for this new season and to understand that I have a God-given purpose to walk in as well. There is a deeper level of intimacy that God equally wants with us.
I was reminded that I raised all three of my children to value their relationship with God, and now I have the blessing of doing the same with my grandchildren. When you see your children flourish and share how God is working in their lives, you become deeply grateful for the past. They make sound decisions with the Lord by their side, and though they may not become who you envisioned, they become who God wants them to be.
You have to ask yourself what does this all mean for you? It's time for you to pray Matthew 7:7. “Ask you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be open unto you.”
Just as the season is shifting for them, it is shifting for you as well. In these moments, it’s crucial to seek purpose and find solace in the enduring promises of God. I am not saying this season is gong to be easy. It may be one of the toughest life lessons you have to walk out. But remember this:
1. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
God has a plan for each stage of our lives. When our children move on to their next chapter, it’s a reminder that our journey isn’t over. God’s plans for us continue, filled with hope and new opportunities. Take this time to explore new passions, ministries, or opportunities that align with His purpose for your life.
2.Ephesians 6:4 (NIV): "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
You’ve invested countless hours nurturing, teaching, and guiding your children. Reflect on the legacy of faith, love, and wisdom you’ve instilled in them. Trust that those seeds you’ve sown will continue to grow and flourish. Your role as a parent now evolves into one of support and prayer, cheering them on from a different vantage point.
3. Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV):"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Parenting is a tough job, and the transition to an empty nest can be both a relief and a challenge. Jesus quietly reminds us to come to Him for rest and renewal. I encourage you to take this time to rejuvenate your spirit, focusing on your own self-care and spiritual growth. Dive deeper into prayer, meditation, and Bible study, finding new ways to connect with God.
4. Galatians 5:13 (NIV): "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
With more free time on your hands, consider how you might serve others in new and meaningful ways. Whether it’s volunteering, mentoring, or participating in community outreach, there are countless ways to use your gifts and talents to bless others.
Keep seeking and leaning on the word for guidance, comfort, and hope. Learn to embrace this new season with faith and an open heart, trusting that God’s beautiful plan for you is still unfolding. As you seek Him, you will discover new ways to serve, grow, and thrive in His purpose for your life.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
As we enter this new season of life, embracing the empty nest, help us to find peace in the quiet moments and joy in the memories dear to our hearts. Grant us the wisdom and discernment to rediscover the God given purpose and the courage to pursue new passions and callings.
May this time be filled with growth, love, and renewed energy.
