Requirements for Discernment
It’s not enough to merely desire Discernment; we must be willing to embrace what it takes to develop it. First and foremost, a Receptive Heart is crucial. A Receptive Heart isn’t passive but actively listens, intending to learn and obey. It’s a heart that attentively inclines towards Wisdom, eager to absorb and apply God’s Teachings.
A Perceptive Heart is equally important. This involves recognizing the immense value of God’s Words. To treasure something means to value it highly, to guard and protect it because of its worth. A Perceptive Heart sees God’s Commandments as precious treasures to be stored and cherished. It perceives the Authority of God’s Word, understanding that its instructions carry eternal weight and Truth.
Moreover, seeking Wisdom requires an active pursuit. This pursuit is likened to searching for silver or hidden treasures—activities that demand effort, dedication, and persistence. We must recognize our deep need for Wisdom and pursue it more fervently than worldly riches.
A Humble Heart is essential in this pursuit. True Wisdom and Discernment reside in humility, in the recognition of our limitations and the need to submit to God's Higher Understanding. Pride blocks Discernment; it convinces us that we already possess all necessary knowledge. Humility, on the other hand, opens us up to learn and grow in God's Wisdom.
Finally, a Believing Heart is crucial. The path to Discernment is rooted in faith, trusting in God's Promises. This Believing Heart turns to God, confident that He will provide the Wisdom we seek when we approach Him with the right attitude.
True Discernment isn't found within ourselves; it's found in God's Word. Many “gurus” and social media influencers will push the cultural mantra that wisdom is rooted in personal experience and that emotion is a fallacy. Real Wisdom, Discernment, and Truth come from God and are revealed in His Word.
Consider how you approach the pursuit of Wisdom and Discernment. Now is the time to take practical steps towards developing a heart that seeks and treasures God's Wisdom. Commit to reading His Word diligently, pray for a humble and receptive spirit, and trust that God will guide you in all Discernment. This is the path to a life grounded in Truth and focused on Jesus.
