My 3 Life-Changing Money Lessons I Learned From John Piper

DAY 3 OF 3

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."

If you can’t keep it, why wouldn’t you give it?

And especially if, in giving it, you are repaid with something far more valuable that lasts forever?

This is pretty much what Luke 12:33-34 beautifully parallels: "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not fail, where no thief approaches, and no moth destroys."

One of the most helpful things for me to remember is that our acts of generosity on this earth (i.e., giving things we can’t keep) are storing up treasures in heaven that will last forever.

While we don’t know exactly what those “treasures” are, we know God’s character.

And you can bet that none of us will ever get to heaven and regret what we have given on this earth.

So, as you go about your day today, remember that every possession is temporary and that by giving, we can gain something that we cannot lose.
