What Does the Bible Say About Water Baptism?

DAY 4 OF 4

What if you have been baptized already as a child?

It can of course be the case that you already have been baptized as a child. How does that work? Are you baptized as is mentioned in the previous days of this Bible plan?

If you read the Bible, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as infant baptism. The infant baptism is not a substitute for circumcision. It also isn’t a Biblical command and therefore not ‘legally valid’.

Your parents can’t decide for you if you do or don’t get baptized. It has to be your decision!

As we read yesterday, the Bible teaches to be baptized immediately after our repentance. A baby or child that isn’t aware of good or evil yet can’t ‘repent’ at all yet.

So a baby or child can’t ‘choose’ to be baptized and buried with Christ. They simply aren’t capable of doing that.

So if you have been baptized as a child or baby, and you have come to ‘living faith’ then this means that you still must be baptized by ‘submersion’. Living faith means: you have made a decision ‘yourself’ to follow Jesus and accept Him personally as your Lord and Savior.

That is simply obeying the Bible.

Faith is the key, but without ‘acts of faith’ it’s a dead faith. So you must ‘express your faith in deeds’ in actions.

James 2:17-18

‘Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

By being baptized you make a statement. You testify of your decision. You show your faith with an action.

So there is no need to hesitate about baptism (Acts 22:16). It’s Biblical; it is being obedient to God.
