My Lighthouse

DAY 1 OF 5

“This is the story of a lighthouse. The one with a light near the sea . . . Fynn had lived in a lighthouse his whole life—just like his dad and his dad and his dad, right back to when it was built.”

Have you ever seen a lighthouse? Do you know why there are lighthouses? A lighthouse is a tall building along the shoreline with a light on top that spins in circles and never goes out. Ships, boats, and vessels rely on a lighthouse to warn them of danger and guide them safely to shore.

Shining in the darkness
I will follow You

Just like a lighthouse, Jesus came to earth to be the constant and never-fading light in our lives (John 8:12). And His Word is like a lamp that guides us (Psalm 119:105). When we follow Jesus, He lights the way to a life full of adventure, fun, and freedom.

Activity:

Imagine yourself living in a lighthouse. What would it look like? Try making one using supplies in your home: two clear plastic cups, red and white construction paper (or any two colors of your choice), a battery-powered flameless tealight, permanent markers, scissors, glue, and tape.

  1. Cut the construction paper into one-inch-wide strips and glue them to the first plastic cup, starting with a white strip and alternating with red strips.
  2. Draw a door and windows on the cup with a marker.
  3. Switch the tealight on and set it on top of the cup. You can use tape to secure it.
  4. Place the second plastic cup over the cup with the tealight. Using a marker, draw a railing on the second cup, starting from where the tealight sits.
  5. Display your lighthouse in your favorite part of the house!

Pray:

Jesus, thank You for coming to earth to light up the whole world. Help me follow Your light that will chase away the darkness and always lead me home to You.

About this Plan

My Lighthouse

Inspired by Rend Collective’s hit song, My Lighthouse, and the children’s book of the same name by Ali Gilkeson, this 5-day devotional invites families with young children to explore the importance of gratitude, trust, and hope in Christ and be encouraged that God is a constant light shining in our lives, guiding us home.
