Neighbor, Love Yourself

DAY 5 OF 5

GOD’S WORK IN YOUR WAITING

Chances are there’s something you’re waiting on right now, in order to have the life you’d like to have.

You’ve prayed for a better job but are stuck in the one you have.

You’ve prayed for a mate but are still sleeping alone.

You’ve prayed for a baby, but the pregnancy tests continue to read negative.

We all spend time waiting for things to improve and our circumstances to change. Isaiah 40:31 tells us that, as we wait, we will spread our wings and soar like eagles, finding new strength to lift us out of our current challenges. If I’m being honest, Isaiah’s words feel frustrating, with wings far off and progress crawling at a snail’s pace. In the middle of our waiting, it can be hard to believe in a time of soaring, and new strength can feel far away when our tiredness is close and deep.

I’ve realized something about this scripture. We’ve been reading it upside down. It’s hard to believe in our ability to soar because we’ve forgotten that soaring comes only after we are given fresh strength.

Take a look at this familiar verse again, but as you read the words, imagine yourself not just in a posture of waiting but in one where God is working, fixing, and equipping you. Imagine a God of action who is about to turn you loose upon the world.

Those who hope in theLord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Jesus is doing the work in you that you need. He’s repairing and preparing all of us for tomorrow and does all of this while we wait.

Ask God what he is trying to teach you and how this season might make you more like Jesus.

We hope this plan encouraged you. Learn more about Neighbor, Love Yourself by Bryan Crum here.

About this Plan

Neighbor, Love Yourself

In Scripture we’re told to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:34-40). Yet many of us don’t love ourselves, at least not as much as God intends, and this affects how we live. These devotionals are for anyone who wishes to feel more fulfilled and wants to become the person God created them to be.
