What If...

DAY 27 OF 28

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture, Isaiah 1:17. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read Isaiah 1:17 again.

  • What stands out to you?
  • What commands do you see here?
  • How are each of these directives connected?

A: Application

  • What would it look like to defend the oppressed this week? What about the fatherless? The widow?
  • Where can you learn more about how to do right and seek justice?
  • What do you think could change in your heart and your community if you did?

P: Prayer

Spend some time praying about the opportunities in your community to care for and defend others. Talk to God about what distractions or obstacles you might need to set aside to do so. Then say thank you that setting things right ultimately isn't up to you—God is the one that seeks justice, and we get to be a partner in it.

About this Plan

What If...

Curiosity inspires artists to look at what is in front of them and imagine something entirely different. God asks us to do something similar—to wonder what it might look like for things to be different. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll chase our curiosity and discover what it can look like to care for the people around us.
