Discovering Faith Amidst Uncertainty

DAY 5 OF 7

What Are You Ashamed of?

Even today, many years later, I still feel this strong shame when I remember my time with the Continental Singers. They were a gospel choir with whom I spent many summers touring all over Europe. My memory was from the rehearsal camp in Holland.

At practice, choreography was shown quickly, and then you had to remember it and dance it. What can I say? I fell out in the first round, and I remember the words, "Déborah, we'll just put you behind one of the microphones; you don't have to move much." Ouch.

Do you know how that sounded to me? “Déborah, you can't dance at all; we have to hide you somehow.” Automatically, the belief grew in me: "You are not good enough." I felt shame and pain.

Perhaps that’s how it felt for Elizabeth, Zechariah’s wife. Was she embarrassed to meet with her friends who all had children, when she didn’t? She was unable to conceive. Did she experience shame and pain?

Was this how she felt until the impossible became possible? Because with God the impossible becomes possible! He let her get pregnant in her old age when the others could no longer have children!

Elizabeth rejoiced: “How kind the Lord is!” she exclaimed. “He has taken away my disgrace of having no children.” (Luke 1:25 NLT). Aha, now we know how she felt.

I want to remind you today that God always finds a way to make the impossible possible in His plan! Yes, God takes shame and pain out of your heart too!

Just as I am allowed to stand on stages today without having to audition (or dance at all, haha), and just as Elizabeth became pregnant, things can still become possible in your life that you never thought possible!

Because God is God!

I pray that He will surprise you with His blessing! Because YOU are loved by Him!

You are a miracle!

About this Plan

Discovering Faith Amidst Uncertainty

The testimony of Zechariah is usually visited around Christmas as the prelude to the birth of Jesus. We tend to skip over this to get to the "good part!" We can learn a lot about Zechariah’s faith, and lack thereof, through the circumstances that developed in His life. God used Zechariah, even in his doubt!
