DAY 4 OF 5

I firmly believe that if you have not settled your own worth, if you are still wrestling with knowing how to value and love yourself fully, you won’t be able to extend that same kind of love and worthiness to the people in your life. Hard stop. . . .

Look, your girl Saz is all about doing your best. I’m all about giving things your all. But you’re still worthy on the days where you’re just having to push through. You’re still worthy after the breakup. You’re still worthy when the world says you don’t measure up. You’re still worthy after the award, and you’re just as worthy when the score doesn’t go your way. . . .

One of Stevie’s favorite stories in the Bible is about a woman who meets Jesus at the well in her town. She’s got a pretty sketch reputation. She’s been with a lot of guys, and you can bet in her small town that everyone knows her reputation. But Jesus treats her with compassion and respect. He lets her know that she has the same access to God and to eternal life as anyone else, regardless of her past, through him. He says, “…whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14). Stevie loves to call this story “Well of Worth” because Jesus reminds someone who is considered less than by her culture that she is worthy and treasured in the eyes of God.

I’m not going to get my presentation right every time. I’m going to have days where my best doesn’t feel top shelf. But that’s not what my value is about.

My worth is found in the inner stuff I’m made of, created of. The fact that God calls me worthy. Just like he does for you.

My mistakes don’t affect my worth. Your mistakes don’t affect yours. And when I can begin the day giving myself the grace of that truth, it’s going to be a day that is good.

Prayer

Father, I confess that I have often found my worth in the things of the world. Please forgive me, and please help me to find my worth in who you have created me to be. Amen.
