Service as an Expression of Worship

DAY 2 OF 4

Serve with a Sense of Urgency and Authority

Those who wish to serve God should understand that their time on earth is fleeting compared to eternity. The 30 or 40 years we may have left are an opportunity to shape our character for eternity and positively impact someone's life. We must learn to live in the present by serving others. In His final days, Jesus knew that His physical body would soon change and that He had the authority to serve.

As a person who wishes to serve in Jesus's way, it is crucial to completely understand who you are while doing it. This way, what you do does not become the center of gravity of your life. Jesus was fully aware of His origin and destination. To serve, you need to be aware of your identity, remember where you come from, know your worth, and clearly understand where you are heading. It is important to remember that we came from God's heart, and we will return to him. On this journey, we learn about our own voice, our humanity, and our redemption. Ultimately, we will return to God's heart and become one with Him.

When we look at ourselves in this way, we serve with love and authority, not as victims, mercenaries, or day laborers. Whether we wash feet, serve tables, or govern, we do it with the same character because we know who we are. We do not seek identity from what we do or achieve, nor do we seek love or recognition for our service, as it puts us at a lower level, and we give up our real nature. This is why Jesus enjoyed referring to Himself as "the Son of Man," and God presents Himself as both a servant and king.

Do we serve others primarily to express ourselves or for them to define us? May God fill our hearts with such conviction that we can go through life expressing our identity in Christ through selfless service that leads to greatness.
