The Footwashing Series: Easter WeekНамуна
Day 4: Dead.
There is no one to wash our feet. There is no one to rescue us from the valley of the shadow of death. There is no one to heal our crippling pain. There is no one to set us free from tormenting dreams.
There is no one to save our children. There is no cure for our sickness, no one to receive us when our friends lower us down through the roof. There is no hope.
He is dead. Lying cold, still, lifeless, and broken in a pitch-black tomb sealed with rock.
Resurrection is coming, but don't rush past this moment. Death for three days, that's the magnitude of what He defeated. He didn't stop breathing for a moment or an hour. There was no earthly hope here. No advanced medical technology available. No reasonable explanation for a tortured, nailed, stabbed man buried for three days to spontaneously come back to life.
No explanation but God.
But, Jesus.
But, Love.
Reflection Questions
- Do I normally lean more into the grief of the death of Jesus or the joy of the resurrection of Jesus?
- This Easter, focus on the opposite area of Jesus' passion that you normally concentrate on.
- What area of my life feels so 'dead' and hopeless that I can't possibly see Jesus coming in with resurrection power?
- Ask Jesus to breathe life into that area again.
