Moments With God For MomsНамуна
Big Faith
Our faith is shaken when we put our faith in the outcome of circumstances and not in our Heavenly Father. God does not change. He is always good, always loving, always full of grace, always holy, and always faithful. Our view of God can change, however, when we find ourselves in situations that cause us to pray for a certain outcome. If that outcome does not happen the way we want, we blame God. We have this backwards. We need to pray, as Jesus prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Jesus’ cup was the cross. He was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane that God would remove his death on the cross. Jesus prayed this prayer three times, and all three times, Jesus submitted to God’s will. It was God’s will for Jesus to die on the cross, not to be cruel or mean, but in order to save mankind from eternal separation from Him.
We cannot “see” God’s plan many times. We pray and ask that God will remove us from the pain, the heartache and the disaster, but we must be willing to pray as Jesus prayed, “Yet not as I will, but as you will.” That kind of prayer, that kind of faith in God, is our goal. We must have faith in our Heavenly Father, not in our circumstances. God is always good, even when bad things happen…. That is big faith.
Prayer
Father, I want big faith! I admit I am weak in the area of my life. I only see the here and now. I have trouble believing in what I cannot see, but God, I want that kind of faith. You tell me in your Word, that if I ask, I will receive. I am asking today, to give me big faith. Grow me to be more like Jesus, to be able to pray and really mean, “Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
