Becoming The Father God Wants You To Be

DAY 1 OF 5

Our Guide

There is a lot of joy to be had in being Dad or Daddy to another person. To fully experience that joy, however, you have to put in the work, and it all starts with adopting the right perspective.

Understand, whether or not your children share your DNA, your children do not actually belong to you. They belong to God. He made them. He knows them. He has a plan for them, and His plans are always best.

You are simply a steward, or caretaker, of the children entrusted to your care, and what you want for/from them is not as important as what God wants for/from them. This being true, you must make sure that the lines of communication between you and God are open and clear.

If you do not know God as your own Heavenly Father, surrender your life to Him today. Confess the sin that separates you from Him, accept His forgiveness, and make Jesus the boss of your life. When you do, God will adopt you as His son forever and begin to speak directly to your heart by the power of His Holy Spirit through His Word, the Bible.

If you do know Him, spend some time refocusing your thoughts and intentions on Him. Let Him “clean house” in your heart, so to speak, getting rid of everything that doesn’t match up with His will and nature so that nothing can interfere with your ability to hear Him as He guides you through the greatest adventure of your life, fatherhood.

  • Are the lines of communication between you and God what they ought to be?
  • Are you ready to be the father God wants you to be, the father your children need?
    • If so, thank God for it. If not, do business with God.

Read Acts 17:24-28, Galatians 4:4-5, and Ephesians 1:13-14.

About this Plan

Becoming The Father God Wants You To Be

Children are a blessing from the Lord, no matter the circumstances surrounding their birth (Psalm 127:3).  If you are a father, thank God for it and decide right now that you are going to be what God wants you to be in your children’s lives, a visible, tangible illustration of Him, no matter what choices you’ve made to this point.  Being a good father really is not as complicated as you might think!  All you have to do is love your children like your Heavenly Father loves you.
