Weird Ideas: Seated at the Right Hand of God

DAY 3 OF 5

If Christianity teaches that Jesus is seated on God’s throne, why does it matter?

Common sense thinking today often assumes no one is running the universe. There’s just predictable principles and ways of describing how it works. Stories about God intervening are just fairy tales, and “miracles” are things we just haven’t figured out yet.

Christians have a different idea. They say Jesus is running the universe. Those predictable principles are under his authority. God has and does intervene. The universe has an authority. Jesus is in control.

This way of thinking changes everything. No longer is the universe a place that just exists, going on aimlessly until it runs out of steam. Life has a purpose, and creation is going somewhere. There’s a goal, with a king advancing. What we face is not random but the effects of a spiritual war. Contrary to the common sense thinking of today, which leads us to look only to ourselves for help and hope in a driftless and empty universe, Jesus invites us to look to him.

About this Plan

Weird Ideas: Seated at the Right Hand of God

Christians are different. They can’t help it. When you’re in Christ and filled with the Spirit, it changes you. This leads to weird ideas and alternate beliefs about reality. This series of 5-day plans uses classic Christian Creeds as a vehicle to explain the Christian worldview compared to the world’s and help us see reality through Jesus’s eyes.
