Fear

How can we surrender something like fear, when in many cases we feel this is something we have no control over?

That is a reasonable question, and the best place to start is by examining the root. Knowing where fear comes from will help us determine how to surrender it to God. In fact, 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Knowing God’s Word to be true, we can discern from those words that when fear creeps in, it is not from God but from the evil one. Fear is most prevalent when we put God to the side and begin relying on our own skill sets. Fear also has a way of paralyzing us from taking action.

When we decided to start The Lion Within Us, fear immediately came into my life. Anxiety and outright spiritual warfare showed up daily. And as I consider our verse from Galatians, there is one word that shouts to the mountaintops when I think about how I survived that time – Faith! That is the secret sauce believers have and what will carry us through when fear sets in.

It only makes sense to recognize that if fear paralyzes, then faith mobilizes. The mobilization is in fact how we surrender fear and begin living a life for Him. Recognizing that we are His and that He cares for us at all times can bring such a tremendous amount of peace to our lives. Surrendering fear over and walking by faith can be an extremely liberating way to live for Him!

Questions to Consider

1. What are you not doing today because of fear, and when are you going to give that to God?
2. Who do you know that needs to surrender the fear in their life? Will you take a step of obedience by reaching out to help them along the journey?

You see, surrendering certain items in our life has the ability to produce amazing fruit. Our journey is too short to let pride, arrogance, and fear pull us down. Put your confidence in God’s Word and hold your head high as you surrender and choose to follow His path!
