WHO GOD IS: Rich in…
"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved." Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV)
If you were rich and had access to unlimited resources, what would you do first? Who would you do it with? What plans for the future would you start to set in motion?
In Ephesians, Paul describes God as rich in grace (1:7), in inheritance (1:18), in mercy (2:4), in kindness (2:7), and in glory (3:16). What does God choose to do with his riches? And with whom does he share them?
He abundantly pours out his grace to purchase forgiveness for those who sin against him (1:7-8).
He enlightens the saints to know his hope, his riches, and his power, which he works for the benefit of those who believe (1:18-19).
He made alive with Christ those who were dead in their sin and fully deserving of his wrath (2:1-5).
He seated with Christ in heavenly realms those to whom he plans to express his kindness through age after age after age (2:6-7).
He strengthens the church with his very Spirit and grounds her in his love so that he might fill her with his fullness (3:16-19).
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
