Real Hope: Confident Hope

DAY 7 OF 7

Fearless Love

From shepherd boy to king, David’s life was marked by twists and turns that showed the depths of the human experience. He was a musician and clearly had a creative mind, as we still read his poems and songs to this day.

Psalm 27 is a bold cry of the heart, claiming favour and protection from a faithful God. ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation. I fear no one.’ It’s a far cry from how life seems to be today. Our world is filled with reasons to be afraid. Fear for our safety. Fear for our reputations. Fear of the type of world we live in. In a world where we are called to love our neighbour, it seems we are given more and more reason to fear them.

I’m sure David could have felt all of these fears. He was king – he had everything to lose and, along the way, he lost a lot. Yet, his hope is sure and steadfast with his heart’s desire to just be with the Lord (v4).

A confident hope needs a sure and steadfast foundation. David shows us that if we tether our hope to a loving and faithful God, we can’t lose. If our heart’s desire is to be with God and He is with us in everything, then we have nothing to lose and everything to gain, and consequently, we have nothing to fear.

A hope like that can change the world with fearless love.
