Remember Jesus Christ [Knowing Jesus Series] Намуна
The apostle Paul writes Timothy a very strange exhortation: "Remember Jesus Christ" (2 Timothy 2:8). Timothy surely would not have forgotten Jesus Christ in his personal life. However, in his ministry, the young servant of God was in danger of drifting away from preaching about Jesus Christ due to the cultural pressures of his time (1 Timothy 6:20; 2 Timothy 2:16).
Today, we are also being bombarded with distractions and constant cultural and ideological pressures, especially from whatever becomes a trend on social media. We also face the temptation of falling into the trap of self-reference and failing to see the world beyond ourselves. Furthermore, quite often, we fail to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).
We can't let the secondary things replace Who is the first and the last (Revelation 22:13). The center, essence and power of our faith rely only on the person of Jesus Christ.
Reflect
If the apostle Paul would write you a letter today as he wrote to Timothy, do you think he would charge you to always remember Jesus Christ too? Why?
Pray
Lord Jesus, I only want to know you more. Forgive me if I have moved you into a secondary place in my private and public life. I want you to be the center of my whole life, including honoring you with my goals and vocation. Help me this week to truly understand who you are. Amen.
About this Plan
"Can a Christian forget about Jesus?" The apostle Paul encouraged young Timothy never to stop remembering Jesus Christ. Since we live in a world of distractions, we risk losing our focus on Jesus. Through this devotional plan, I invite you to rediscover the importance of knowing Jesus Christ as he is presented in Scripture. The goal is to keep our lives centered on Him until the end.
