When Holidays Hurt

DAY 4 OF 6

Security Is Available

For months after my daughter died, I struggled to sleep at night. I had slept lightly for over two decades, keeping my eyes closed but ears open to the potential sound of her battling seizures.

A heightened sense of awareness prevented rest. Most nights, I prayed the hours away, but finally I realized my security couldn't come from feeling like I had everything under control. I began to pray for rest for my weary soul and peace from the Lord to blanket me.

Strength and security are priceless commodities we need for heartache during the holiday season. Thankfully, David shows us where to find them in today's passage.

"It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure." Psalm 28:32

Your heavenly Father longs to be all you need. In the empty holes of your heart, there is only one who can fill those spaces. His name is Jesus, and he came for you.

Regardless of the trials you face during the Christmas season, the gift you need the most is the one who longs to live in your heart. Despite your tough circumstances, God’s plan is the best plan for your life; he loves you too much for anything otherwise. As long as you are breathing, life has meaning.

No matter the ache or the longing, the sorrow or the suffering, the birth of Jesus brought hope and healing to the entire world. Embrace that thought to carry you today.

Pray with Me

Father, you provide all the strength and security I need. While this hole in my heart overwhelms me, channel my thoughts to remember that Jesus' birth ignited hope and healing. That hope is still available for me today. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

See you tomorrow!
