Seated in Authority

"and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6

Previously we discovered our true identity begins in WHOSE we are, being sons of God. As sons and daughters adopted into the family of God, we are given the opportunity and ability to experience the indescribable Love of God. We have acknowledged and hopefully experienced sitting at His table, hungering for Him.

In Ephesians chapters two through four, our Father discloses to us even more of our position, identity and purpose. In Ephesians 2, we realize that we literally are two places at the same time. We walk, breathe and exist on earth, yet the truth of scripture is that at the same moment we are also hidden IN Christ and raised to sit WITH Him at the right hand of the Father. This position is a position of authority. It is also bestowed on us, His family, His disciples when in Luke 10:19 “Behold, I have given you authority to . . . And over all the power of the enemy . . .”

That seated position of authority is a resting place. It is the position and identity as sons that we take as we rest in Christ and with Christ. The word there indicating us to sit is the Greek word Kathizo. As we answer the call to sit we are His Ekklesia. This is who we are, His Ekklesia. Ekklesia was a Roman term used to identify those that Caesar would call to himself in order to hear his heart and desires for his kingdom. The Ekklesia was then to go back to their assigned territory and enforce his will. We are that! We come sit in the court of the Most High, the King of Kings, hear His heart and absorb His word. Then we are to go out and enforce His will.

The most effective and by far the first act of authority is when we are still in that position of resting in Christ by faith, having heard His heart over a situation, person, or nation we declare His Word. When we are acting in the Ekklesia position it is most noted not with intercession and supplication, but in declaration authority. We declare His will. For me personally, I realize this is a position of resting in Him, but it is also a position of fear and trembling. I do not want to declare something that is not a directive of His will. Therefore, I consistently ask Him for a scripture to declare what my heart seems to be hearing from Him.

Time and time again, we have seen the Kingdom come in such wonder, majesty and love to a situation, a person, ourselves and even nations. God loves working in and through His family. Therefore, we do our part. We pray, serve, work, intercede, and declare our part. As each of us do our portion, we see the tapestry of God’s Glory descend on the earth. Amazing!

Activation:

Stand up out of your chair. Now picture the reality that you are seated with Christ. Now sit down with the dignity Christ bestowed on you as His Ekklesia, His ambassador. Spend time listening. Be still. You may ask Him about a certain person, situation, or people group. Hear His heart. Now ask Him to give you a specific scripture that you can release over the concern in declarative authority, knowing that His Word is at work to do all that He sends it out to do. Then, submit yourself to Him to be the hands and feet to the declaration if He wants you to be.
