The First Letter of John

DAY 16 OF 28

To Destroy the Works of the Devil

God came to untie us from sin. There is purpose and intent in how He deals with us. It is to set us free from all the schemes of the devil. It wasn’t simply to give us a good feeling on Sundays - but to give us real life. We don’t have to be slaves to sin and brokenness anymore. Through Christ's power, we have the choice to embrace freedom, which leads to love. And we know we walk in freedom when we start loving people with no strings attached.

1 John 3:10 says plainly that the children of God are obviously seen by how they live and by how they love. When we still hate someone or a group of people, then there is a gap that we haven’t crossed yet. Hating people is the mark of a hurting heart that hasn’t yet fully surrendered to Christ.

Devotional Questions:

Are there people in my life, groups of people, or organizations that I do not love? Are there people I need to forgive and release from grudges for the sake of freedom?
