A Husband's Role in MarriageНамуна
Be a Protector
The glow of a live flame caught my attention from outside the shop. Inside, a man was creating a custom glass sculpture, blowing, twisting, and pulling the delicate material until it was just right.
The walls were lined with hundreds of miniature creations—flowers, dragons, and dolphins—all available for purchase and reasonably priced. But behind the counter, well protected from the fingers of browsing customers, were the masterpieces—delicate, intricate, and very, very expensive. The more value a piece had, the more layers of protection surrounded it.
Scripture calls wives “weaker vessels,” but it doesn’t do it to imply they are worth less. On the contrary, they are to be given greater honor and greater protection. A husband is to use his strength to provide that protection.
Sadly, statistics prove that a woman is far more likely to be hurt by someone she is romantically involved with than a total stranger.
The role of a husband is to create an environment of safety from emotional, spiritual, and physical harm. If you are a source of danger to your wife, you have violated God’s call as a husband and must repent. Like the one-of-a-kind glass masterpieces in that shop, a husband is to lift up his wife and protect her from harm.
Are you a source of safety for your wife … or danger? Can she express emotion without criticism and spiritual doubts without condemnation? Do conflicts descend into verbal or physical assaults? What can you do to protect her from emotional, spiritual, and physical harm?
About this Plan
During the wedding ceremony, it is easy to tell what the husband’s role is. Stand here, repeat after me, say “I do,” and kiss the bride. Easy! But what happens after the wedding? This 8-day plan will help husbands understand their biblical role in marriage.
