The five senses are sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing. Our senses work best when we are young. Did you know that there are sounds that only kids can hear?

Sound travels in waves and the height of the wave is called the frequency. This is measured in ‘hertz’, named after Heinrich Hertz, who discovered it. High frequencies are things like a whistle, or birds or cymbals on a drum kit. Low frequencies are things like thunder, thumping feet on the stairs or a big bass drum.

Children can hear a greater range of frequencies. As people get older they lose their ability to hear higher-pitched sounds that children can hear. The highest frequency a child can hear under normal conditions is 20,000 Hz. That is the at highest limit of human hearing, and since children have very sharp hearing, they can hear these high frequency sounds.

Even if you can’t hear all these frequencies, you are never too young (or too old) to hear from God. Maybe children could even have a different ability to hear from God.

God doesn’t just speak to adults and the Holy Spirit doesn’t just work in the lives of adults. The same God and His Holy Spirit speaks to and works in children. You’re never too young to hear from God.
