Holy Spirit Devotional

DAY 6 OF 14

THE FIRE OF THE HOLY GHOST

Fire is a way the Holy Spirit manifests on us and in us as believers. All throughout scripture, we can see many examples of the Holy Spirit or the presence of God being represented by fire. In Matthew 3, John the Baptist teaches about the coming of Jesus saying, “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Jesus manifested Himself in a similar way on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24 with the disciples who said, “were our hearts not burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Here the presence of Jesus manifested through fire in their hearts. They could feel and experience Him without even recognizing who He was because of the Holy Spirit! Every day as you encounter the Holy Spirit, you have the opportunity to encounter the fire of His presence.

In the fire of the Holy Ghost —

  • He refines us (Zechariah 13:9)
  • He speaks to us (Exodus 3:2)
  • He burns away impurities (Ezekiel 24:11)
  • He imparts us zeal and passion (Hosea 7:6)
  • He releases miracles (2 Kings 1:10)
  • He tests your faith (1 Peter 4:12)
  • He consumes you as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1)

One encounter with His presence can change everything. Right now invite the Holy Spirit and His fire into the room you’re in. Ask Him what He wants to do! Let His fire consume you as you yield completely to Him. The fire of the Holy Ghost always!

Pray: Holy Spirit, come with Your fire and consume me. I am Your living sacrifice! Consume me with Your fire and burn away any impurity. Let this be my worship unto You! I wanna burn for YOU! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
