Finally Jonah, after all his escapades, did something right and in line with God’s Word. Jonah went to the city and preached throughout. It took him 3 days! We may think the city was a large metropolitan city like the ones we have today. However, it was just 2 kilometers end to end! It would take us about 25 minutes at a brisk pace to walk across that distance. But Jonah was intentional. He preached throughout the city, at each corner, at the market, interacting with all the inhabitants of the city. He didn’t try to gather everyone at the city center, but he worked his way through the city, stopping at the roadside, telling a few people at a time the message that God has for them.
Before we start making excuses, thinking that we aren’t called to be evangelists, let’s take a closer look at what happens in the story of Jonah. He had a simple message from God. When we deliver a message from God, they will believe it’s from God if we get out of the way. It’s not about us. It’s not about how we deliver the message or how convincing we can be. If the message is from God, they will respond to it.
The message: You have 40 days to turn around. That was the message. A one-line message, one-line response. People repented and believed. God wants to do something through you, and when He’s done, it’ll be something He did. You want your life to be a success, make it to live on the purposes of God.
Most of the time we look at our lives out of fear of doing wrong or out of guilt. There’s a negative connotation to it. I shouldn’t do this because the bible says …. Can we challenge ourselves to see what we’re doing right? This is what God has asked me to do, and I am faithful in this …. We say we love Jesus. Are we doing what he’s asking us to do?
He has a task, and He will wait for us to change or get on track to join Him in that mission!
