Paddling Into the BombНамуна
A Committed Paddle In
Focus verses: Mark 4:30–41
There’s no doubt about the real identity of Jesus in the very first verses of this Gospel.
He gathers His team of followers and friends and begins teaching them about God’s Kingdom, using well-known situations to explain heavenly principles with stories called parables.
He also exposes them to what the Kingdom of Heaven is all about by healing the sick, casting out unclean spirits, and showing His authority over the weather!
The ultimate miracle happens when He shows He has authority over life and death when He returns a dead, young girl, very much alive, to her family.
In the light of today’s reading, we have to ask ourselves a big question – easily the most important question of our lives…
… who do you say that this man Jesus is?
It’s the same question His followers were confronted with as they witnessed miracle after miracle.
“The disciples were absolutely terrified. ‘Who is this man?’ they asked each other. ‘Even the wind and the waves obey him!’” (Mark 4:41)
Just as every good wave starts with a committed paddle in – so Jesus’ ministry and actions showed that He truly was the son of God. He launched into His time on earth, teaching, healing, and showing God’s love to the people around Him, with His whole heart. “Start as you mean to go on” is a phrase that sums it up!
And as you read the stories of Jesus’ ministry in the Gospel of Mark, you’ll likely find yourself asking the question, “Who is this man?”
The answer you give will determine your eternal future. So give some serious thought to your response.
Reading the stories of Jesus that Mark shares is definitely a good start – so, as you launch into this plan today, paddle with all you’ve got!
Pray and act
Is your knowledge of Jesus just that – knowledge – or is it based on a personal experience of Him?
Pray: Jesus, let me encounter you in a new way as I wrestle with the same question your disciples asked: “Who is this man?” Send your Spirit so I may know more of you… and become more like you today.
