Trying To Control The Outcome
As Fantasy Football managers, we love to take credit when our teams are winning and we put the right players in our starting lineup.
When the games kick off, most of us intently watch and try to control what happens on the field. We catch ourselves yelling at the coach to run on certain plays or try to will the quarterback to throw to our guys.
Of course, we ultimately realize we can’t control how the players perform. It’s simply up to us to set our lineups and accept we’ve done our part.
In life, we also try to control the outcome of our circumstances. Unfortunately, when things are out of our control and don’t go according to our plan, we get anxious, angry, and discouraged.
When we start heading down this path, we must remember the words found in Philippians 4:6-7: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
To have God’s peace, we must believe that He knows what He’s doing and is ultimately in control. We can only find true freedom when we fully let go.
It’s up to us to prayerfully trust and remain patient. We have to remember that “Our God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases” (Psalm 115:3).
Just like in Fantasy, we do what we’re capable of doing, and then sit back and watch God move and do what He knows is best.
Proverbs 16:9 tells us, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
As hard as it is to trust the outcome, let’s be reminded we control very little in life. Let’s be reassured that as we place our hope and faith in Jesus, we can have peace in knowing the One who is in control will provide us with the best outcome.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I confess that I try to control things too often. Please show me how I can let go and fully trust You. I know Your way is the best and I desire to have peace as I place my faith in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
