Pray Through the PsalmsНамуна
Why Pray Through the Psalms?
The Psalms are a great resource for prayer because they express a wide range of emotions and feelings that we might have toward God. Whether we are feeling happy and grateful or sad and overwhelmed, there is a psalm that can help us connect with God in a meaningful way. King David, the writer of many of the Psalms we’ll dive into together, wrote many of the Psalms as songs and prayers to God through his highest highs and lowest lows. Jesus himself quoted the Psalms in one of his most famous prayers, crying out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” from Psalm 22 when he was dying on the cross.
We can use the Psalms to pray by reading them slowly and meditatively, focusing on the words and allowing them to sink in. We can also personalize the Psalms by inserting our own experiences and emotions into the text, making them more personal and relevant to our lives.
Over the next two weeks, we’lldive into the stories, emotions, and prayers behind some of the psalms in the Bible. We’ll also have a guided prayer for each Psalm to springboard your conversations with God. Today, pray and invite God to speak to you over the next two weeks as you spend time in his Word.
