DAY 17 OF 30

Family History

Family lines are taken seriously in the Bible. Cain's family line established all sorts of things: metallurgy, civil engineering, the development of large cities, and more. Unfortunately, Cain's family line followed the evil traditions of sin, perpetuating brokenness and separation from God. Seth's family line, in contrast, is recorded as reestablishing the practice of "calling on the name of the Lord."

We can choose what we want to perpetuate in our family line. We can learn all types of values and behaviors from our families, follow our forefathers' mistakes, or choose to invite God and adopt his values and behavior, resetting our family history.

This is good news! You are not stuck in the bad choices of your family line; instead, you have been adopted and invited to live in a new family line in Christ.

Question: Do you ever find yourself being worried about the consequences of the "sins" of your parents or grandparents? Have you ever taken time to lay them at the feet of Jesus and accept his promises?

Prayer: Ask God to teach you what being part of his family means, show you his values, and empower you to live as his child. Ask him to help you to write a new family story.
