DAY 11 OF 30

S.I.N.

Corruption entered the world as sin, which can be defined through an acrostic: "Self-Indulgence Now." At the root of sin is the desire to put ourselves, our perspectives, and our desires first, replacing God's view and purpose for our lives and elevating our importance over believing in our Creator's much more extensive and wiser perspective.

Adam and Eve's sin was trading dependence on God for self-dependence. Humans were designed to be conscious of God and his love, not to keep a record of "rights" and "wrongs." Adam and Eve traded their knowledge of God for self-understanding of their good and evil deeds.

They traded the image of the eternal for a limited perspective based on their own biased opinions, all built on the lie they could be "like God," not realizing they were already made in his image.

Question: Why do you think Adam and Eve chose to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? In what ways is Self-Indulgence Now taking your sight off of God?

Prayer: The struggle against self-reliance is very real. Ask God to teach you greater trust and humility to rely on him first.
